In the sum­mer of 2006, I spent six weeks in res­i­dence at the Jing­dez­hen Ex­per­i­men­tal Fac­to­ry. Lo­cat­ed in Jing­dez­hen, known as China’s por­ce­lain cap­i­tal, the Ex­per­i­men­tal Fac­to­ry pro­vid­ed an ex­traor­di­nary cul­tur­al and ar­tis­tic ex­pe­ri­ence. New works cre­at­ed in China in­tro­duced new el­e­ments of col­our and tex­ture that ech­oed my ex­pe­ri­ence of the Chi­nese land­scape and peo­ple. The res­i­den­cy cul­mi­n­at­ed in a solo show Two Rooms at the Chi­nese Euro­pean Arts Cen­tre in Xiamen in Oc­to­ber 2007. Fol­low­ing this the work was ex­hib­i­ted as part of Place Set­tings in 2008.
