In the summer of 2006, I spent six weeks in residence at the Jingdezhen Experimental Factory. Located in Jingdezhen, known as China’s porcelain capital, the Experimental Factory provided an extraordinary cultural and artistic experience. New works created in China introduced new elements of colour and texture that echoed my experience of the Chinese landscape and people. The residency culminated in a solo show Two Rooms at the Chinese European Arts Centre in Xiamen in October 2007. Following this the work was exhibited as part of Place Settings in 2008.
The project was kindly supported by Manchester School of Art, Manchester Institute for Research and Innovation in Art & Design (MIRIAD) and Arts Council England.
