Gomde UK, The Lindholme Hall Estate is a Buddhist Centre set within an idyllic 180-acre ‘island’, which lies within the Humberhead Peatlands National Nature Reserve, in the centre of Hatfield Moor, South Yorkshire. Our Spiritual Director is the renowned Tibetan Buddhist Master, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche. The centre is named after the land of Rinpoche’s forefathers, Gomde, which translates as place of meditators. In this secluded and beautiful environment, we provide authentic Buddhist teachings and have facilities for people to stay, study and practice as well as undertake solitary retreats.
In September 2022, Chökyi Nyima Rinpoche clarified that the centre would become a monastery with a large temple in the coming years. Gomde UK will be a place that nurtures and trains a monastic sangha, preserving the source of the dharma for generations to come.
Rinpoche has named the Temple, Thubten Chökor Ling — ‘The Island where the Wheel of Buddha’s Teachings Turns’.
For many years Gomde UK has been active in the fields of sustainability and conservation. We have strong green credentials, including a plan for net zero carbon emissions, which can be reached by 2022. The 180-acre estate, which includes 60 acres of rare uncut peatland, is managed under a conservation stewardship agreement (HLS) enabling all our land management to have conservation as its priority. In addition, a group of expert volunteers, the Lindholme Old Moor Management Group (LOM), help manage the rarest and most fragile parts of the Estate and provide expert advice for our wider conservation efforts.
