PairingsManchester School of Art2008 — 12-----The Pairings project was led by Alice Kettle at Manchester School of Art to explore the potential of collaborative creative practice. It was initiated not only to make new work, but also to engage in conversation and establish links with other makers and institutions. The participants came from a variety of backgrounds in the craft, design and art spectrum, engaging with materials ranging from clay, glass, textiles, metal, wood or paper, to new technologies such as digital and film media. During this time, I formed collaborative projects with Liz Wheeldon-Wyatt and David Grimshaw.
Following the initial Pairings exhibition at the Special Collections Gallery, Manchester Metropolitan University, a two-day conference Pairings: Conversations, Collaborations, Materials sought to make a significant contribution to expand knowledge in collaborative practice in craft, design and art environments. The conference was co-curated by Alice Kettle and I at Manchester School of Art in 2011. MAP Consortium provided the conference interventions and co-facilitation.
